Sphinx observatory
The Sphinx observatory is one of the highest astronomical observatories in the world. Located at an altitude of 3,571 metres above sea level, it offers a spectacular view of the Alps and a clear night sky, ideal for astronomical observation.
The Sphinx research station can be reached via the Jungfraubahn railway, which takes visitors through spectacular mountain landscapes. The observatory has a viewing platform open to the public, from which one can admire the surrounding peaks and the Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps.
An interesting curiosity is that, thanks to its elevated position and rarefied air, the observatory is used not only for astronomical studies, but also for atmospheric and climatic research.
