Swissminiatur officially opened the 2026 season with a major new feature: the inauguration of the Sessa Gold Mine, a new immersive attraction that enhances the visitor experience within the park.
This installation represents an absolute first for Swissminiatur: for the first time, a full-scale reconstruction has been created, designed to offer an engaging experience alongside Switzerland’s famous miniatures.
The project was developed to enhance one of the most evocative areas of the park: the only passage tunnel located at the center of the exhibition area, completely transformed to recreate the authentic atmosphere of a mine.
Visitors can enjoy a truly immersive journey, discovering Swiss mining history and traditions, with a special tribute to the historic Sessa Gold Mine.
Inside the tunnel, every detail has been carefully designed:
- real railway tracks
- an authentic air pipe
- supporting structures inspired by the original ones
- an original mine door
- a dry-stone wall simulating tunnel closures
- a small shrine dedicated to Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners
A unique experience combining culture, history, and discovery, making the visit even more engaging for both adults and children.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several personalities connected to the region and the project. After the opening speech by Alessandro Rezzonico, Deputy Director of Swissminiatur, the following speakers took part:
- Chiara Pozzi, Project Manager for Swissminiatur
- Emiliano Delmenico, Mayor of Melide
- Piero Marchesi, Mayor of Tresa
- Carla Norghauer, Godmother of the Mine
- Mauro Poretti, representative of the Sessa Gold Mine
A meaningful moment highlighting the importance of collaboration between local communities, culture, and tourism.
With this new attraction, Swissminiatur reaffirms its commitment to offering increasingly engaging and innovative experiences, while promoting Swiss heritage.
