It was built in 1953 by the “Union de Patrouilles alpines de la division de montagne 10” in the Avençon Valley, above Bex, at 2262 m.a.s.l.
Lucens castle was fortified during the Middle-Ages by the archbishops of Lausanne. They intended in this way to block the valley of the Broye and in the meantime to protect and defend the town of Moudon.

Avenches was founded by the Romans in the 1st century. They built an amphitheatre that could contain 8000 spectators. The tower was added afterwards, over the former entrance of the amphitheatre, in the Middle Ages.
This cathedral was built following the Gothic style characteristic of its period and was consecrated in 1275. The rose window reaches a diameter of 9 meters and is endowed with the original glasswork.
The castle was probably built in the 11th century by Adalbert von Grandson and then totally rebuilt in the 13th century. In 1475 and in 1536 this fortress was entirely destroyed by the Bernese people. Nowadays, the castle has become a museum.
